Gas fireplaces are marketed throughout the United States and the world in different styles and forms. Of the types available, one thing attracts the many – the ventless gas fireplaces.
A ventless gas fireplace is a fireplace product that functions with the use of gas, hence the name. Unlike the conventional types of masonry fireplace, this option works without the use of a chimney or a flue, and this is made possible with the construction of the so-called “complete fuel consumption” on the unit itself. This technology is basically what allows the vent free gas fireplace, as it is commonly known, to emit only fewer amounts of combustion by-products.
The ventless or vent free fireplaces boast a number of features that are to some degree unique from the others. In the first place, the units are noted significantly for their being user-friendly. Yes, they are easy and quick to install, only demanding a little time and effort from you to complete the installation. It is also easy to maintain knowing that unlike the conventional types of fireplace, the ventless options eliminate all the hassles of soot and creosote.
The ventless gas fireplaces are further rated as 99.9 percent energy efficient. This is particularly attributed to the fact that this gas fireplace doesn’t use any chimney or flue for releasing the combustion by-products. With that, it is expected for the unit to emit and release all the heat into the room and within its vicinity. This makes the ventless fireplace perfect during the wintry months when much of the warmth is needed to provide comfort throughout the home.
As an added feature, the ventless gas fireplaces come with a thermostat. It has its own controls which make the homeowner capable of adjusting or changing the room temperature the moment he or she desires. And, with the fact that the ventless fireplaces employ no ventilation pipes, they are then more flexible with regards to installation. You can install them almost anywhere, and after minutes of running, it will distribute heat throughout your room to the most relaxing and comfortable manner you can imagine.
Although that said, the ventless gas fireplaces are also susceptible to certain drawbacks. The most known of these drawbacks has something to do with the use of imitation ventless fireplace gas logs that generally appear to be obviously fake. This, of course, is a minus to how the ventless fireplaces appear once installed in the center or corner of a room. But, although that said, the log still burns to provide the heat required in a room.
When using a ventless type of fireplace, allow it to run for just a matter of hours at a time. While running, make sure that the doors are shut off, but open a window to allow fresh air to enter into the room. Aside from that, it is always best to keep all the flammable materials away from the fireplace since the units are highly powerful that they can emit a lot of heat. A distance of about three feet from the fireplace is best. All of these tips are often suggested by the ventless fireplace manufacturers themselves.
Note: When installing a ventless gas fireplace in your room, make sure to keep at least one carbon monoxide detector. This item is available on the market nowadays at a pretty expensive price, however. But, although expensive, the carbon monoxide detector is worth the expense as it can detect even the most odorless and colorless smoke that can potentially harm yourself and the other people living inside the room. And, if you decide to install the ventless gas fireplaces by yourself, make sure that you follow all the instructions and recommendations highlighted on the manufacturer’s manual. There’s no better thing to do to make your fireplace initially safe and efficient than heading the manufacturer’s instructions.
